newcastle-based producer traela makes his first appearance on wax with this on-point work out for hhatri, a london based label who have previously been happily working with the likes of soichi terada. there is definitely a sense of feel-good optimism and kinked drum programming hovering over this ep, especially on hanging over a river. you know i can hide also stands out with its strafing bass lick and spacescraping synth rolls, but the script gets flipped for ep closer uyokuthola as tribal percussion meets with an ambient atmosphere for a most engrossing end result.

ondon-based duo jamka return with inter alia, the latest evidence of their patient, intimate relationship with their analogue machines. from the start there�s a sense of event � we encounter clear, interlaced electronic textures, powerful analogue drones and well-placed beats. the tracks aren�t soundscapes so much as fertile electronic soundfields. patemp continuously expands in an incredibly subtle but powerful way and shows that jamka�s technical skills don�t preclude an emotional touch. on the tight and minimal anazmo, the coiled energy bears traces of minimal techno and radical electronica, but it�s beyond either of these. while the album passes quickly, it�s full of detail and the thoughtfulness and craft that have gone into it are evident. dwa offers the chance to appreciate the flow and the sheen of its analogue textures � the modernist romance of the power line hum and its promise of technological-cultural progress. jamka are known for their dynamic live performances and this energy is almost tangible on derazor. the stately igora is a strong, bold close to the album, offering surprises right till the end. the sharp, metallic details ripple through the mix and an anthemic sequence shines through. inter alia makes clear that jamka are worthy inheritors of slovakia�s proud late modernist traditions of radical architecture and electronic music. this is a work of craft that demands respect and repeated listening.

having done such wonderful work alongside wolf muller on the sound of glades album, cass makes a welcome return with an expansive album release on emotional response. the german producer s ambient tendencies blossom here, occasionally meeting with laconic drums as on u but primarily dealing in huge swathes of melody. djs will want to hold out for the dramatic pulse of ann, where a more pronounced drum set makes for one of the album s most club-ready moments. theres a strong variety of tones and moods across youth sessions, from the strafing arpeggios of running to the bliss-out shapeless swirl of prismatic prolog, and this ensures that the album will not dull with repeated listens.

after a longer than usual break gamm enterprises is back on black plastic but more important... we got a brand new design! for those who don t know gamm has been delivering dance music of the blacker kind for almost 15 years but always with the same look. basically, a visual facelift was long overdue. but we think you ll feel it as much as we do and it really works beautifully with our musical ideology. so, for the (new) premier release we got an incognito producer that is rumoured to come from a small town in mexico. having finally agreed for a brief skype call he appeared wearing none other than a bright luchador mask and giving one-word answers with a strong mexican accent. no matter how convincing that was we still can t help thinking his name sounds pretty close to another producer that is to put it mildly, pretty hyped at the moment. musically the ep is ranging from percussive carnival disco (carnival in manchester) to brazilian fusion grooves (jazz in italics) and independent disco/funk (dues paid fast). either way you ll definitely find something that will work your party. gamm is back and back with musical vengeance!

landing straight after 415-pr10, public releases first in a loose series of san francisco-centric compilations, this three-track 12inch is a further exploration of the bay areas sounds and aesthetics, though here its explored via remixes produced by friends from abroad. the a-side is a complete overhaul, reimagining, and extension of anonstops seaside by thee loving hand, tim goldsworthys solo moniker of choice these days. the ex-dfa records co-founder and former member of unkle took the tunes balearic foundation and used it as a bed for what one might mistake as a lost arthur russell cut from the world of echo era. joel wells lent his airy, light, sweet vocals to the track, while darren morris added synth work to bolster tim�s usual production genius. it�s carefree and emotive, the aural equivalent of a big, toothy smile. the flip features a mix thats a whole helluva lot more intense and uptempo, though no less positive than its original. chidas remix of domination is squarer and housier than beziers piece, which was glitzy classic disco dunked in italo, but enough of it remains to be unmistakably a spinoff. fiery and propulsive in the way a gulfstream jet is, its a ball of thunder that will electrify any set, any dance floor.

jamie roberts is no stranger to the more experimental tenets of the techno genre, and much of the british artist�s output of late has hinted at more leftfield leanings. a recent return to will bankhead�s trilogy tapes imprint saw a brace of meditative, post-detroit workouts - employing the same heady, hardware aesthetic as much of his work on ternesc - though at a drastically reduced tempo. it�s this same willingness to break down perceptions regarding his own music that marks walk type � roberts� debut on the avian label, as a notable chapter in the artist�s discography.

copenhagen�s music for dreams continue their string of pearls in 2016 with the 12� release of apiento & lx�s dish. at the request of cutting edge danish designer trine lindegaard, paul byrne (aka apiento) created this music to accompany her dish project - a playful fusion of food, fashion and art - when it premiered at 2016 copenhagen fashion week. for the project, lindegaard worked with members of integration organization itmv in copenhagen to produce clothing items based on their favourite food dishes, apiento and regular collaborator uk-based house producer lx, used the recorded interviews of their discussions as raw material with cut-up samples of the women�s voices woven into the music for the runway show. the result is an ethereal and avant-garde mix of crisp beats and featherlight percussion blended in a fresh and modern oriental-flavoured balearic groove packed with gorgeous flutes and kalimbas. the powerful dub on the flip-side brings a heavier more trippy feel geared firmly for the dancefloor. as well as a string of great remixes and edits as apiento, paul byrne is also well known for his behind-thescenes work with labels like junior boy s own, international feel and deewee, and for his highly influential blog test pressing. limited edition vinyl - don�t miss.
